My biggest fan...

My son and I lived in this little cabin (12'X14') for a few years. No running water, but a decent outhouse. So I do know something about "cabin fever"...However, my son tells me it was the best of times.

This is (picture taken at 19) my son David just turned 23!  All grown up, and just got his degree in Aerospace Engineering! He's available Ladies!
He got my good looks. On the other hand, he's quite intelligent. I'm very proud of him. He's also my best friend.

  1. Welcome to "Cabin Fever Alaskan Artworks!"  My name is David Booth and I have drawn and created all the stuff you will see on these pages.  I've lived in Alaska (Soldotna) for over 20 years.  The Kenai River flows through our little town.  The Kenai is the home of the world record for the KING SALMON (over 97 pounds!), so every summer literally thousand of folks invade "Slowdotna" (we call them the "Winnnebago tribe") to fish the Kenai River, Cook Inlet, Kasilof River, and other waters of the Kenai peninsula.  The summers here are short, however, and by September most have fled south to warmer climes.  The winters are long and cold and many here suffer from "cabin fever" as there isn't much to do.  It's my hope that my cartoons and stuff will actually be an antidote of sorts for this phenomenon.  Laughter is good for the soul.  That's why I was ispired to do my unique series of POLAR BEAR CARTOONS with a whimsical veiw on GLOBAL WARMING. By the way, if you haven't tried "kite fishing" you should. It's a gas!

Yep, we really caught some "HOGS" on the KENAI RIVER back in the day.  That's me on the right during my "beard faze." This picture was kinda famous. It was the only time any outfit brought in two fish over 80 lbs from the same trip!  Pretty cool!

I've wanted to be a cartoonist all of my life. I remember drawing toons when I was around six years old, mostly dinasours and space ships.  Guess weirdness was always a big part of my personality.  Now that I am at the ripe age of 62, I find I've got the life experience necessary to actually do cartoons with some content. I dunno, I guess you, dear reader, can be the judge of that.
Most of my life I was a professional fishing guide and outfitter, both here in Alaska and in Oregon on the Rogue River. I was also a professional musician (blues, rock and jazz guitarist) and I think I'm pretty darn good.  One of the highlights of my guiding career was taking Stevie Ray Vaughn fishing on the Kenai, unfortunately he passed away about a month later.  I'm also a chef, carpenter, father (one great son, now 23 yrs. old and recently graduated from Oregon State in Corvallis,Oregon) and am starting to write books on fishing, chidren's books, and scarier thingsI think you have to be a bit crazy to be a cartoonist or writer.  Uh oh, better go for now before I get myself in trouble here. Later, friend.

This is a self portrait taken in my "studio." The studio is actually an ancient, but comfy 18' trailer. Photo taken 2005 with cell phone...

My Quotes:
"Dear God. If you'll forgive  all the little jokes I played on you, and I'll forgive the great big one you played on me."
"What's all this talk about 'heaven' & 'hell?'  I kinda like it here."
"Good deeds done daily...no charge."
"Hey God...how about another shot at that 'forbidden fruit' thing?"
On fishing & guiding: "I'm not the best, but there's no body better."
"Art and Love are like gardens. Trim off the dead stuff and forget it." "Never, ever give up! The fruit that comes from Love and/or art is the sweetest, and what life is all about"

And finally...This is a picture of me and my dear, sweet mom at my high school graduation (Los Gatos H.S., California)  What, you did not think I was edjukated?? Well, you can see where I got my good looks from...↓

The picture below was taken by my mother many years ago. It shows me and my younger brother Daniel on a pier in San Francisco. She sent it to the "Cronicle" and won some kind of award for it...

This is an old picture of me and my son David. It's still one of my all time favorites.

Old pic of me and my son on my motorpickle. In Oregon, where I used to live, you couldn't ride on a cycle until your feet could reach the pegs. Here we are on his first ride!

This is an old picture of my little sister Carrie. I threw it in because she is the only sane one in the family, and I just wanted you to know that there is somebody in my family who is sane...She's a good buddy; gives me shit constantly...
